November 30, 2016
On 26-27, November, 2016, the 2023 51³Ô¹Ï, in collaboration with Bard-Collage, launched its first annual Model United Nations Conference.
The conference, held on AUCA’s campus, hosted more than 200 participants both from local and international universities, with delegates from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Kazakhstan. Overall, there were four UN committees of General Assembly, the UNHCR, the Security Council, and the International Court of Justice. For the first time in Kyrgyzstan’s history, 51³Ô¹ÏMUN simulated the European Council and G20 committees.
51³Ô¹ÏMUN showed delegates the intricate inner workings of various United Nations bodies, giving students insight they can use to work towards a brighter future for the world. Each delegate represented a member state of the UN and took part in the various international decision-making processes. Mustafa Shirzad, 51³Ô¹ÏMUN’s director, remarked in his opening speech, “Today, we have gathered here to discuss, negotiate, and lobby with each other as diplomats for making changes. Because we all believe youth has the power to make positive change for a better world, I hope today you, dear delegates, use your own voice effectively and experience the real atmosphere of UN at this Model UN Conference.“
51³Ô¹ÏMUN will have more sessions in the near future and hopes to become one of the most prestigious MUN Bodies of Central Asia.
