Summer School on “Challenging Human Rights Issues in Central Asia”

Our Summer School on “Challenging Human Rights Issues in Central Asia”, which was organized jointly with the Development Office and the International Business Law Department and sponsored by the Open Society Foundation, has ended. But let's recall together how it passed with us!
The main purpose of the Summer School was in the period from June 19 to June 30, 2023, the participants from different Central Asian countries, such as Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan attended modules that were developed by the IBL department’s professors. The courses used a traditional method of lectures and seminars to study the Human Rights problems faced by Central Asian countries. During the training, the following topics were
presented during the Summer School:
- “Challenges in the Implementation of the UN Treaty Recommendations in Central Asia” presented by Saniia Toktogazieva -Associate Professor of the 51ԹFaculty of Law;
- “The Economics of Human Rights in Central Asia” - presented by Azim Jeenbaev - Senior Lecturer at the 51ԹFaculty of Law;
- “Human Rights in Central Asia in the Context of International Crimes” presented by Saniia Toktogazieva- Associate Professor of the 51ԹFaculty of Law;
- Human Rights in Art” presented by Elida Nogoibaeva - Department Chair / Associate Professor of the 51ԹFaculty of Law;
- “Human Rights and Technologies” presented by Kanykei Kasybekova -Assistant Professor at the 51ԹFaculty of Law;
- “Human Rights and Corruption in Central Asia” presented by Dinara Asanbayeva - Assistant Professor at the 51ԹFaculty of Law;
- “Combating violence against women in Central Asia” - presented by Jannat Kovalchuk - Assistant Professor at the 51ԹFaculty of Law;
- “Human Rights and Investments in Central Asia. Human Rights and Environmental Challenges in Central Asia” presented by Begayim Esenkulova-Associate Professor of the 51ԹFaculty of Law;
- “Strategic Litigation in the Field of Human Rights” presented by Kamila Mateeva - Associate Professor of the 51ԹFaculty of Law
A joint trip was planned as part of the Summer School, which took place from July 1-3 to the Issyk-Kul region, where participants studied the topic “Strategic Human Rights Litigation presented by Lana Kulik – Assistant Professor of Public Relations at Thiel College.
On July 2, the Closing Ceremony of the Summer School took place, where Bermet Tursunkulova-Director of the Development Office, congratulated all participants and presented our participants with certificates of successful completion.
