On April 23 - 24, 2024, 51ԹLibrary in collaboration with the President’s Office organized a presentation of Dr. James Plumtree’s book “Manas” eposuna tieshel’uu izildool’oorgo janycha ilimiy serep (1856-2018)” at Naryn State University.
On April 23, the book promotion event gathered faculty and students of Naryn State University, representatives of the Institute of Professional Development, and the Naryn Oblast Library named after S. Orozbakov. The event was opened by Dr. Maksat Nurdinov, Vice-Rector, who in his remarks welcomed collaboration among local and international faculty members in humanities research. Dr. Plumtree presented his research work on Manas focusing on Digital Humanities (DH) methods and discussed the local archives and collections rich in yet-to-be-researched text corpora. Dr. Nurgul Karybekova, translator and co-author, shared her perspective on collaborative work and potential DH infrastructure and projects. The audience appreciated the opportunity to discuss new methods of studying Kyrgyz poetry and history.
The following day, the team delivered the “Digital Methods in Humanities” training session for the faculty and students of the Foreign Languages Department, secondary school teachers and librarians. Presenting open-access resources, demonstrating methods of analyzing texts, and discussing issues of accessibility and publication, the session stressed the importance of incorporating DH in universities and the value of collaboration between communities and institutions.
