Field study in the Ala-Archa National Park

On May 4, 2024, the Department of Environmental Sustainability and Climate Science organized a field study for the 51³Ô¹Ïstudents to the Ala-Archa National Park in Chui region, as part of the natural science course “Food Security, Nutrition and Sustainable Development". The purpose of the field study was to familiarize students with the Ala-Archa National Park, its unique nature and biodiversity.

During the field study, the students learned about the various types of trees, plants and wild animals that included in the red book of the Kyrgyzstan such as a lynx Turkestan, a golden eagle, a humai, baloban; from rare species — a snow leopard and a snow vulture, and also their role in the ecosystem of the Ala-Archa National Park. At the same time, the students get acquainted with the causes of forest degradation, loss of biodiversity and waste issues that are associated with human activities, etc.

Enrolled in the Food Security, Nutrition and Sustainable Development course, I had the pleasure of joining an excursion to Ala-Archa National Park. During the excursion I have learned that the park was established in 1976 to preserve its rich biodiversity, the park is home to diverse wildlife, including grey marmots, wild goats, deer, Ibex, and the elusive snow leopard, etc. This park, a beloved retreat for tourists and Bishkek locals, transforms into a haven for climbers and picnickers, especially on weekends. Guided by Professor Mairambek, we explored the ecological wealth of the park, discovering a diverse array of flora and fauna unique to this enchanting habitat. In addition, with each ascent, Professor Mairambek shed light on the intricate web of life within Ala-Archa, emphasizing the crucial role of biodiversity in sustaining ecosystems and supporting food security.

I recently visited Ala-Archa National Park as part of a class. We were able to turn our trips into enjoyable discussions on the area's many distinct elements because to Professor Nurgaziev's extensive knowledge of the park's majestic peaks, many trails, lush terrain, and wildlife, including ibex and marmots native to the park. The seven-hour ride up the mountain was an unforgettable experience made possible by Professor Nurgaziev's ability to foster a sense of community among us, as well as the spectacular beauty of the surroundings.

We went on an excursion trip to Ala-Archa National Park conducted on the 4th of May 2024 for the class—Food Security, Nutrition and Sustainable Development. During this trip our professor provided us with information about fauna and flora of Ala-Archa park. First, the park possesses a lot of plants and about 50 species of those plants are used for the purpose of traditional medicine. Second, we learned about the history of the park and the number of tourists that come each week. Also, we learned that the park occupies an area of 16000 hectares. More importantly, the park has placed in it various species of animals including infrequent birds. On the way to entrance of the park, there was information of animals and birds on boards. Overall, it was both an informative yet interesting trip because we got the chance to meet new people and enjoy the fresh air of the park.
