Goals and Learning Outcomes

Peace and Conflict Studies Concentration is an interdisciplinary program that aims to educate a new generation of leaders in Central Asia who will be actively engaged in the promotion of intercommunal peace and tolerance, prevention of violence and resolution of interpersonal and intergroup conflicts by using relevant theoretical and methodological knowledge, analytical and practical skills.

Peace and Conflict Studies Concentration has the following goals:
- to provide an interdisciplinary comprehensive peace education that aims to meet contemporary local, national, regional and global challenges;
- to train a new generation of leaders in Central Asia who will be able to promote intercommunal peace and tolerance, prevent violence and resolve interpersonal and intergroup conflicts;
- to commit to the key principles of liberal arts education and sciences and equip students with timely theoretical and methodological knowledge, analytical and practical skills;
- to increase the collaboration of academicians with practitioners, the civil society and the government to raise the awareness of the society on the problems of peacebuilding and conflict resolution;
- to enable students to promote a sustainable peace by addressing political, economic, social, environmental problems in the region and the world.

Peace and Conflict Studies Concentration will result in the following learning outcomes:
- to understand the role of peace education in the peacebuilding processes at local, national, regional and global levels;
- to raise a new generation of young people in Central Asia who will have relevant knowledge and skills to promote intercommunal peace and manage interpersonal and intergroup conflicts;
- to manage essential analytical and practical skills as critical thinking, creativity, flexibility, problem-solving, academic freedom, academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences tradition;
- to apply the theoretical-methodological knowledge and practical skills for the development of local communities through civic engagement, partnership projects and other initiatives on an everyday basis;
- to respond timely and constructively to political, economic, social, environmental challenges and promote a sustainable peace in the region and world-wide.
